READING
The importance of reading in a child's education cannot be understated. A student's academic performance is heavily dependent on the amount of reading they do each day. Reading daily to your child from a your age provides them with an incredible beginning to their schooling. At Mordialloc Beach Primary School, we continue this important practice daily. Our reading program involves an immersion in rich literary texts, development of world knowledge, and a deep exploration and analysis of a range of text types. Modelled reading by our teachers occurs each day, along with independent reading and journal reflections. Reading conferences are held regularly where together, teachers and students develop and work on their individual reading goals. This is supplemented with guided reading groups that foster discussion, expression of opinions and critical thinking. Students led book clubs are helpful for students to share their reading and reflections, and performances through Readers Theatre allows our Junior students to read through a variety of fun and different ways . Our students love reading! |

WRITING
We can confidently and proudly say that Mordialloc Beach Primary School is producing some of the best primary level writers in Victoria. Our writing program is brilliant, leading to narratives full of imagery, excitement and tension. Our students use expressive vocabulary and a variety of authorial skills to create imaginative narratives that keep you wanting to read more. We celebrate our writing through a Writer's Festival where each student in the school publishes a narrative for display. Our high quality writing extends to a variety of text types, including persuasive texts, information reports, poetry and procedural writing. Our students also love debating, and confidently and proudly present the opinions and arguments in a competitive yet respectful manner. |
